QUEERED is an ongoing live & online performance series which seeks to broaden queer representation in musical theatre.
QUEERED began as an enquiry for my thesis, "Playing the Binary: How can reframing contribute to the representation of queerness". The thesis explored the dangerous stereotypes musical theatre has often portrayed queer existence & looked at how reframing revivals can break the stigmas of
The idea has come from the recent reframing’s of shows such as Company, Little Shop of Horrors and Oklahoma where new bodies have radically changed the narrative and potential within the production. As a queer identifying creator, I’m keen to encourage and create performances that defy the ‘straightness’ within musical theatre. By encouraging the works to reflect a contemporary society through enabling queer, feminist and stereotype defining narratives & castings, we can create lasting and impactful moments of theatre.
